The Project
Choosing our Future is an exciting initiative of the City of Ottawa, the City of Gatineau and the National Capital Commission to help Canada’s Capital Region to succeed in meeting the challenges of the 21st century by integrating sustainability, resiliency and liveability into all facets of the community. It’s about making informed choices and considering the long-term impacts of how we travel, where we live and how we build prosperous, healthy communities.
Quality of Life - Quality of Place - Today and for the future
The three themes of Choosing our Future are:
Sustainability
Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Resiliency
Ensuring the region can withstand stress and/or sudden changes – whether they are environmental, social or economic – while retaining our basic functions as a community.
Liveability
Preserving our current quality of life, while recognizing that today’s lifestyles will need to change to be more sustainable.
