Ottawa, Gatineau residents to help shape region’s future

Residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) will join Mayor Larry O’Brien, Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau and Marie Lemay, CEO of the National Capital Commission (NCC), as they discuss and help to shape the region’s future by participating in the Choosing our Future Futures Forum.

The Forum will feature presentations from nationally recognized leaders. David Baxter, Executive Director of Vancouver’s Urban Futures Institute, Rob Abbott, one of Canada’s leading sustainability strategists, and Pierre Sadik, manager of government affairs at the David Suzuki Foundation, will explore sustainability issues and concepts, including population and demographics, culture, economics and the environment, focusing specifically on the unique context of the NCR.

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Opening remarks by Mayor O’Brien, Mayor Bureau and Marie Lemay will take place at 9 a.m.

Choosing our Future is an innovative joint planning initiative of the City of Ottawa, the City of Gatineau and the NCC. The project’s goal is to integrate concepts of sustainability and resiliency into all facets of regional planning and design.The Futures Forum, which is the culmination of the Choosing our Future Event Week, enables residents to participate in hands-on team workshops, in which they will share ideas and discuss the challenges facing the region over the next century. The outcomes of the Futures Forum will assist in generating action plans for the future sustainability and resiliency of the NCR.
